Meet the (grand)Parents

 | We
left Chico and took the four hour trip to Mendocino to meet Anna's
grandparents. Along the way we drove through a redwood forest
which was cool because I'd never seen trees so big. The roads
were new to me too... very windy and steep. The last section was
25 miles
long but took almost an hour because it was so treacherous. You
could certainly tell the locals from the tourists and I found myself
wishing I still had my little bmw instead of my jeep! I had to
pull off at some of the turnouts to let folks pass. I'll tell you
what, Mendocino is a dump... you can see from the photos. My
first glimpse of the Pacific on this trip was in Mendocino, and that's
not a bad place to see it. |
We hung out for a couple of days with Bill and Marion and had a
wonderful time. The first night I think we showed up just in time
for martinis and dinner. Marion told us funny stories about their old
cattle farm and Bill told some fascinating stories about the navy fighters he
flew in ww2. The next day we were treated to an awesome breakfast
at the Little River Inn, where Marion had an antique shop. They
showed us around town and later Bill and I took a walk across the
street from their house to watch the waves and inspect a neighbor's house that had burned out years ago and is for sale.
What a gorgeous lot, right on a cliff at the edge of the ocean... any takers?
