Back it up...

VALLADOLID - whoops, I was going through my photos and realized I forgot to make an entry from Valladolid Mexico. I was going to just skip it but I figured what the heck. Valladolid was a few weeks ago but if you remember from before, it is an old inland colonial town en route from Tulum to Chichen Itza...
We kept seeing these Mayan women wandering around wearing very traditional mayan dresses and desperately wanted to get a photo of one of them. However, they're not into getting their pictures taken by anybody. I asked a handful of women on the street if I could take a snapshot and they all politely declined. Heck, I was in the town center of Valladolid and when I whipped out my camera to take a shot of the Hotel Maria de la Luz, they scattered like cockroaches in the daylight. I was keen on getting a shot 'on the sly' until I was told why they don't want photos taken... I guess when they die they don't want to leave anything of themselves behind, including images captures in photographs. So I couldn't very well disrespect their wishes and take a shot without their knowledge. What I did get is a shot of the dresses they wear (I guess there are no rules against that)

Here are some shots of the streets, so you can get a feel of what it looks like...

I can't very well travel through Mexico without noticing the myriad new vw bugs around. They're all in such great shape! Late models, and not rusted out!! I was in heaven, but I think Anna was someplace else cuz I wouldn't stop pointing them out (kindof annoying after a bit I suppose). This is of course one of the many 'new' vw beetles I desperately wanted to purchase and send home. Too bad you can't import these guys anymore. This guy was a 2002, made in Brazil.

This is the ornate fountain in the center of town, very beautiful place with lots of people milling around.

Here's the giant church down town... I guess it's the oldest of it's kind in Mexico. But don't quote me on that.

Finally, this is a shot of one of those 'collectivo' taxis I keep going on about. For those in the know, it looks like a an old-style vw bus from the 60's... but it's really a 200x kombi bus that is still produced in Brazil. Note the radiator grill on the front... this puppy is water cooled!
